The i7 8700k was just then released and the benchmarks show that it is slightly better than the i7 7700k, although it is only just a bit better, canon lake is going to come out in some time and it might be noticeably better than the i7 7700k, in that case i can easily upgrade my processor if i had a z370 motherboad.
But is it worth it to buy a z370 motherboard? because the motherboard that i have paired up with the i7 7700k has a chipset waterblock in it, the system that I built is water cooled and using the chipset as well will help cool down the i7 7700k, but is it enough to be better than the i7 8700k?
Basically should i have 2 heatsinks for a i7 7700k or should i have only 1 heatsink for my i7 8700k.

oh and by the way i am deciding to overclock the components as much as possible (before it reaches dangerous temperature)

Here are my pc specs:
Intel - Core i7-7700K 4.2GHz Quad-Core Processor
Gigabyte - GA-Z270X-Gaming 9 EATX LGA1151 Motherboard
G.Skill - Trident Z 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-4133 Memory
Samsung - 850 PRO 4TB 2.5" Solid State Drive
AORUS GeForce® GTX 1080 Ti Waterforce WB Xtreme Edition 11G (SLI)

from the benches I've seen so far, the 8700k is a couple of fps faster. as you said yourself, differences are minimal.

in the end: what is it to you if your 7700k squeezes out 2 fps more or less than an 8700k?
an OC'd 7700k usually beats a 8700k @stock if that's what you're asking.

upgrading from a 6700/7700k to a 8700k is definitely a waste of money.
