My current system specs

i5 4590
8 gigs of ram
gtx 1080 mini

I am now looking for an upgrade.I want the best CPU for 1080p gaming which allows me to max out all the settings. My first choice was to go for a 7700K and 16gigs of ram with obviously a new MOB but some of my friends are telling me 7700K is overkill for 1080p gaming and are suggesting me to go for the i5 7600K or the 6700K.I would also like to add that I will be staying away from overclocking and will be sticking to 1080p gaming for a long time. Can anyone suggest me the best CPU for my requirement.

To summarize it

-1080p Gaming(ULTRA,All settings maxed out)
-No overclocking
-PC will be used ONLY for gaming and not for video editing, image manipulation, software development etc
-Not interested in AMD CPUs

Solution
Agreed to first look at cost of used i7.

If doing a full upgrade then dont bother with 6th/7th gen CPUs, get the new 8th gen cpus with more cores/threads.

That will be much more future proof for 1080p gaming.

Fyi the only difference between a 7700k and a 6700k is a few hundred mhz clock speed.

Look for a used 4770 or 4790 (or K variants) which should work in your motherboard and upgrade your RAM to 16gb, should max out everything and will be cheaper then having to buy a 6700/MB/RAM. My 4770K (not OC currently) & 1080 ti runs everything on Ultra at 1080P/80+ FPS.

Getting the 8th gen with a new MOB would be too expensive for me.I don't want to buy used CPUs as well. What about i5 7600K?

Well even though you don't have a ti the performance wouldn't be too far off. If you can't afford a 8th Gen (Coffeelake) upgrade and won't go used then your best bet is to save up then until you can afford that upgrade since neither 6700/7700 will fit into your current motherboard socket which is a 1150 (those are 1151).

In the meantime you can try to go through your system and disable programs that may cause lower performance in your games and set the priority to high in task manager which may help a bit. I noticed a small increase when I did this for my second system which is a 4590/GTX 780.
