as the title says, my computer crashes after playing a game for a while.

what it does is the screen goes blank and sound abruptly stops. the computer is still running, including the fans, the interior lights, but all input and output doesn't work. sometimes it reaches the preboot screen but it never goes past. forced shutdown via power button is required.

i have yet do determine the reason of the crashing, and it doesn't help that it isn't appearing in the crash dumps. my specs are:
CPU: AMD A8-7650K quad core
GPU: AMD Radeon R7 Series integrated card
MOTHERBOARD: ASRock FM2A68M-HD+
RAM: 16 gigs ddr3 SDRAM
OS: Microsoft Windows 10 Home (x64) Build 14393.953 (RS1)
PSU:evga superNOVA 550 g2

any other specifics can be provided upon request

theories i've made:
possibly the psu, though i doubt it
most likely the GPU, with some proof
maybe the CPU, also with some proof.

i have made 3 modifications to this computer from first buying it.

1: replaced the PSU as i bought it from a European distributor and i live in the US.
2: replaced a faulty ram card with a working one and have yet to see any trouble from it.
3: replaced a CPU fan that i broke while inspecting the PC. (note, this was AFTER the issue started occurring, not before. it didn't seem to change anything at all. yes, i did make sure it had thermal paste.)

update 1: updated drivers for my motherboard chipset, have yet to seen how that works out.

Solution
Running seatools didn't work out and now you cant reinstall completely. I think you have a drive issue. Get a new cheap drive you can test install with. Remove all the rest as any with bad sectors can cause a crash at anytime.

Well I don’t exactly know how to check my bios version to see if I need an update

Also, it’s starting to crash when not even playing a game, and when I check my temps none look out of the ordinary

since i already dealt with this problem before (see second modification), this was the first thing i tried. it came back with 0 errors.

Vapour can you elaborate on what to borrow?
Calvin7 I’m sure it isn’t incompatiblity because 1) I used to be able to use it perfectly normally 2) it’s getting worse

Here is a video on ASRock FM2 bios. At the start you see version in the first line. The p1.3 after the board name. Your motherboard should have a bios setup about the same. Dont do an internet update tho as those are risky. Get a USB to flash the bios.

Elbert everything looks good on my bios, and it’s the latest version. though, as for your previous question about hardware temps , i've noticed something odd. when using HWiNFO it seems that my motherboard and my cpu are reporting 2 different CPU temps. my mobo is reporting temps in the 30's, which is nothing too strange, but my cpu is reporting temperatures in the 50's during idle use. which should i trust?

Trust your motherboard bios readings. Could be your getting corrupt informtion from your drives so test those. Use seatools for seagate, data lifegaurd for WD, and Magician for Samsung SSD's. On seatools do a smart, generic, and self test. On data lifeguard do long test.

Thanks for the info! I’ll try later today and I’ll get back to you if I find something or something strange happens
update 1: i tried seatools first as that is my HD brand, but it doesn't get past usb drivers
update 2: after running seatools, my hardware viewing software no longer works, and resetting is for now the only forseeable way to fix
Update 3: looked at the bios and it showed the 50+ temperature. That pretty much proves it’s the cpu, right?

Its not an absolute as the max working temp is 72.4c. Tho your going off 50c at idle is most likely. You should look at getting a better cooler to test. If the stock cooler is being used try this only. Its a good deal better.

sorry for my absence, i was trying to look through my purchase history to find the specific fan model i bought. i haven't found it yet, but i do have information that might help. when i manually lower the CPU clock speed in the BIOS, it seems to take longer for my computer to crash. now, through what little i DO know about hardware, i believe that means that this narrows my issue to two parts: the PSU and the CPU. if i'm wrong, feel free to correct me. i'm also still looking for my exact CPU fan model, and i'll post that when i get it. I can say for a fact, however, that i'm not using a stock cooler, and the issue was happening before and after i replaced the original fan+heatsink, with no visible difference once i put the new one in.

That would include the motherboard also. Its VRM's could be overheating if pushing more voltage to the CPU. Thus unstable voltage delivery to the CPU. On the flipside your bios could not be sending enough voltage to the CPU and by lowering the CPU's speed gets more stable at the set voltage being delivered. Run HWmonitor and upload a screen shot of the results for about 10 minutes.

HWmonitor's reading are all normal. After searching a bit on your parts I found that your motherboard has a lot of problems. Only suggestion that seemed to work was reinstalling windows after the bios update. I say give that a go and get the latest drivers to test with the fresh install.
