The thing that seems to work for me:
1) Pick a theme, (i.e. Batman, Dragons, Woodpaneled, Racing, Mad Max [See Linus Tech Tips Build by Luke
] etc...)
2) Pick some key parts of that theme such as specific colors, symbols, artwork, or lighting
3) Do some research to see whats out there and what you're comfortable making, such as lighting kits, colored LED fans, plasti-dip, custom fan grills ( https://www.v1tech.com/shop/fangrills/batman-design-fan-grills/ ), custom GPU backplates ( http://www.v1tech.com/shop/backplates/batman-design-backplates/ ), and MUCH MORE
4) Decide your budget for these items, what you absolutely want/need for your build, and pick and choose from there
5) As a bonus, maybe you can find a good motherboard or GPU or fan that matches your theme!
6) Enjoy showing off your sleek new build to anyone you can
