well i guess that the gtx 1070 is more than enough to choke any i5 right now in the market perhaps you dont believe me, but i am experiencing it myself i bought a i5 7400 and a gigabyte gtx 1070, in 144 hz gaming the cpu seems to choke in games like hitman gta 5 rise of tombraider and almost everyother games.
the witcher 3 is unplayable with lag spikes and AC Syndicate too. remember that i am talking about 144 hz, 1080p gaming. some of the youtube channels are trying to warn us a lot. please see their videos, its open proof. i suggest nothing less than an 17 7700k for the 144hz 170 or 1080 gaming. 1070 should blow the roofs off the modern day titles but it never reaches the 90% gpu utilization its mainly between 60 to 70 % and i guess in hitman it is in the 40s!! maan seriously. the case is the same with the i5 6800k and the haswell processors, with cpu usage reaching 100% and choking. this is an open discussion i request everyone to give their opinion about. i guess the next gen gpu's the 11 series or whatever will blow the shit away for the mid range and maybe even the high end cpus, even with dx12 enabled.

Well no, because Intel just put 2 more cores in their new Core i5s.

As for your Core i5-7400, part of the problem is it runs at rather low clocks. A 7600K wouldn't have quite the same issues. Still, 4 cores/4 threads is starting to show its limitations in CPU-intensive games.

Yup maybe the 8th gens will be able to cope up, until the 11 series comes out.. 7600k has the same issues but not at the level of 7400 but in 144hz gaming bottleneck occurs.
