i currently live on a school home with no access to the router or modem other than the lan stick in the wall that i use to connect to my pc.

for a month or so now ive been randomly dropping my lan connection without any real sign as to why, but windows troubleshooting usually comes up with "ethernet does not have a valid ip connection/configuration (not sure)" and something with gateway not reachable.

my buest guess is that there are conflicting ip addresses but i dont know

That is the nature of intermittent problems. They come and go at random. And there may be no pattern. (But keep watching...)

Unless you can somehow methodically eliminate possible causes (pc, network adapter, cable, RJ-45 plug, wall outlet, etc.) not much can be done.

Who do you call when the network goes down?

Hopefully there is someone who can do a check inside the wall outlet and otherwise along the Ethernet wiring from your room back to the router.

Not sure about "lan stick" but I believe you mean an Ethernet wall outlet. Or a powerline adapter perhaps?

Are you able to post a photograph?

Intermittent connection losses could be a loose wire or some wire damage anywhere along the path between your room and the router.

Start by trying another known working Ethernet cable between your pc and the wall jack.

Contact the school/home IT folks. Someone will need to check the wiring and connections.

i do mean an ethernet wall outlet, an connection problem seems unlikely as i have tried 3 cables including a brand new one all with the same issues, and the internet only drops every 30 min to an hour if at all, and usually for 1-2 minutes at a time when it does, but otherwise runs without an issue.

i will send a picture of the port when i get home

i also want to add that i have tried to flush the dns, release and renew my ip, uninstalled, reinstalled and updated the network adapter driver, tried different cat cables, disabled ipv6 and multiple power saving options on the network adapter with no success.

Intermittent drops can be caused by a loose connection. Works for while and then stops working due to some environmental change: e.g. temperature, vibration.

A faulty connection could be inside the Ethernet wall outlet or somewhere along the connecting cables and switches leading to the router via the patch panel.

Can you borrow a longer Ethernet cable and try temporarily connecting your pc to another Ethernet wall outlet? Or borrow a wired laptop to connect to your Ethernet outlet?

Determine if the loss of connectivity is limited to your pc or the network wiring.

The objective is to narrow down the source of the problem.

problem is testing wether or not the issue persists seeing as i cant find any pattern or way to make it happen and it can go days without happening at times, or minutes at other times.

i have not heard anyone else complain about it, but at the same time i dont know anyone else at the studen home that needs the constant internet connection either as none of them are gamers.

i probably cant borrow an outlet as it requires me to use someone elses room for an extended amount of time and there is only one outlet per person.
