Potential CPU Upgrade

Heya,

I'm currently using an i5 4670k but it seems as if it's becoming less competent at pushing out good performance as games come out. I've recently come across the Ryzen 5 1600x and am just wondering how much faster it would be in general. I'm currently getting mixed answers from benchmarks around the Internet so I apologise for my lack in knowledge,

Kind regards.

I wouldn't recommend that one what with the new coffee lake cpus out now(8xxx series).
A more worthwhile upgrade would be the 8600k or 8700k. They are more powerful than the 1600, but the total build will cost more. But as I said in my previous post, the 1600 doesn't outperform your 4670k in everything, but those other two cpus will... plus you get 2 more cores.

As for the ram question, if you are upgrading to 6xxx series and up, or Ryzen, you have to use ddr4... older cpus are not compatible with that.

Benchmarks are just benchmarks. When actually comparing the two while gaming, the difference won't be as noticeable, although the 1600 will stand out more in the games that use more threads than your 4670k can provide... which are few at the moment.
The 1600 can be either faster or slower than your current cpu depending on the application. Since clockspeed is more important for gaming, the 4670 should be stronger in most cases, making the 1600 more of a 'sidegrade'. Consider the new 8600k or 8700k for a more worthwhile upgrade, if your budget allows.
