Poor FPS on otherwise decent setup.

So I have a Ryzen 5 1600x with a Nvidia GTX 1080 card, and yet some games (specifically The Forest and 7 Days to Die) run around 30~50 FPS on these games. Other games like GTA V, Doom and others of the high caliber sort have run pretty damn well on high or ultra graphics, with varying degrees of frame loss here and there. Would anyone have any idea as to why I'm getting such poor FPS on these two games? I found a youtube video of someone using a similar setup to mine and they run "The Forest" over 100 FPS which is my desired result. Here's a link to the video I found of someone using a setup a little less powerful than mine (https://youtu.be/5XUIuXq4K8o). If anyone could help me figure out the bottle neck on my computer, I would be much obliged.

Ryzen 5 1600X
Zotac Nvidia GTX 1080
ASRock A320M Pro4
G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4-2666 8192MB x2 (16 gigs dual channel)
Antec Earthwatts 650 Watt power supply
PNY 240gig SSD
WDC 1TB HHD

Monitor: ASUS Swift PG278Q 27' 1440p 144hz 1ms G-Sync gaming monitor. Hooked up via Display Port.

P.S. I updated my video card drivers and mobo drivers as well, to no effect.

1. List all your specs.
2. monitor CPU and GPU usage and report back
3. Do you use any gforce experience, gsync, free sync, etc? If DX12 is used, try DX11?
4. Is BIOS, drivers up to date?
5. Try to change to a good video cable, some reported the cable is the culprit

2. I'll get to you on this. I've done it before and didn't notice any significant drains on CPU or GPU. Low percentages, but still choppy or laggy frames on these two games ~40fps.

3. G-Sync. Sometimes I use Geforce experience (hit and miss results). I'm not sure which DX these two games use.

4. Updated BIOS to most current recnetly, no effect. Video card drivers I'm religiously keeping up to date.

5. I'll try changing out the cable and report back.
