Hi Guys,

I have a very specific problem with the sound on my computer. I'll talk you through the issue. I recently tried to install my new graphics card, and after some fiddling, I had numerous issues I had to perform a CMOS reset to get everything going.

Long story short, cards working and performing, but NOW I'm getting no sound out of my computer. I can't hear anything through either of the AUX ports (Both Motherboard and Front panel). The system detects if I plug headphones in and audio levels to move if I play music. I can also hear things through a bluetooth connection via bluetooth headphones. However I edit video content which Bluetooth has too long of a delay to work.

Any ideas on whats happened? I've reinstalled the audio drivers and chipset drivers. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, I could try a sound card?

Specs:
MSI x99 SLI Plus
I7-5820K
12Gb Ram DDR4
GTX 1050ti

Solution
Go into your Window's Sound Settings and make sure that you select the correct Playback Device. Chances are the computer is trying to use Hi-Def sound output from your new GPU (via the HDMI) instead of the regular computer audio.

I have tried this and selected the correct playback device and disabled all others. I.e. GPU and HDMI output but nothing changes. Note, faint background noise can be heard (Through both front and back panel) which I cannot hear with any other device.

That has also been done. i think i may have damaged the sound processing on my motherboard but i am unsure how I managed to achieve that.

I'm out of ideas right now.
Resetting the BIOS or confirming the BIOS is choosing the onboard as sound output, and installing drivers, and confirming settings..you'd think one of those would solve it. You could certainly try a soundcard, just make sure it is your version of Windows compatible. I have the SoundBlaster Zx and am happy with it.

So, the main issue was a combination and resulted in needing a new soundcard. The on-board sound chip/card was damaged. Different operating systems didn't resolve the issue and attempting the above solutions didnt get any results. The new sound card did fix this however.
