Hi,
Hardware isn't really my thing but could someone just help me understand: I built a new PC using i7-7700 4.2 to replace a PC I built in 2011 using an i7-970 3.2.

Based on a few tests (rendering graphics, etc) and the following link - it looks like the 7700 (which I thought was a decent, modern CPU) is only about 50% faster than my SIX year old processor! Seems a bit weird to me.I thought Moore's law would have kicked in a bit ;-)

Solution
Well, the fact that you have 2 cores less than you old CPU and still get 50% faster tells a lot. However, the days of massive performance boost with every CPU generation is over long time ago, you typically only see like 5-10% in every CPU generation these days.
Also that site is only good for a general direction and shouldn't be taken so seriously.

Basic test was to render the Terragen default scene - 26 seconds on new processor, 37 on old :(

Thanks for the info - was hoping there was a secret setting I'd missed :)
