dont really know where to start but may as well ask.
was using a biostar ta970 for overclocking my 8320 (yes not the best board for that, regardless)
used to be able to jump to 4.7ghz stable at around 1.45v..
since then i've got a GA-990FXA-UD3 Ultra from gigabyte and i cant go any higher than 4.2ghz and it doesnt stay stable unless i go to around 1.46v, which seems stupid high to me.
wondering if that's reasonable at all that voltage? something i'm doing wrong or not.
far as any bios i have i've turned off cool 'n quiet and done everything the article on overclocking fx chips has got to say.
any possibility the VMR could be getting too hot or is that silly?
thanks

Solution
Not even close, I run my FX 6350 at 4.9GHz and 1.572v under Mugen3 cooler for couple of years without any problems. Cooling and VRM on the MB also play big role in how high you can go.

ahh ok i'll give things a try, thank you.
after seeing how many warnings there are on the net about hitting the 1.5 mark i figured that was the cpu breaker right there
