I have the above router and it randomly drop the dsl connection. i need to cycle the power and it usually works after. I have read other posts with the same or similar problems. Question is what to do about it? The warranty is expired now so my choice is to buy a new router. But I have the feeling this one can be repaired? Any suggestion appreciated.

Solution
I run it in both my N56U and my N65U routers, some used as access points, some used as emergency backup router. I have never had an issue flashing it or flashing back.
It is based on the open source released Asus firmware. If you want to see more users of PADAVAN, there is (was) a large user base over at SmallNetBuilder.com forums.
Obviously the N56U router is getting kind of old now. Most power users have moved on to AC WIFI routers. I am in the process of retiring my N56U access points and replacing them with RT-AC68U whenever I can get one for under $50 on E-Bay.

Of so i flashed the router with the padavan firmware and it seems to work well right away. maybe this fix will hold for the long term.
