Hi! Recently I've been having issues with sudden FPS drops across all my games.

My laptop is an Asus Zenbook UX530 (https://www.asus.com/Laptops/ASUS-ZenBook-UX530UX/) and I've only had it for approximately 5 months. I've only been having issues this past week or so.

Specs;
Operating System: Windows 10
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-7500U Processor
RAM: 8 GB
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 940MX (2 GB GDDR5)
Storage : 512 GB SSD

- My laptop is not overheating. We've done tests for this, the air circulation is fine too.

- I don't have any viruses. I've ran multiple anti virus scans and checked my installed programmes (I don't have much installed anyways).

- It's not an issue with a specific game or Steam, as it's happening across both Steam and non Steam games.

- My drivers are up to date and I don't think it's my NVIDIA graphics card, as the issue still occurs when using integrated graphics.

- The memory doesn't max out during the lag spikes.

- It doesn't appear to be anything to do with my power settings.

- The issue didn't start to occur after any specific update or installing anything.

- During some of the lag spikes, my CPU maxes out, but not all the time.

Solution
Worst case scenario, you might want to perform a full reinstall. If there's a bug in the software, it could be really hard to find. Could be a DX10/11 issue, OpenGL, or any subsystem component/driver. At some point a clean windows install eliminates a lot of possible issues and tells you whether you have/had a software or hardware problem.

No, the FPS Drop still occurs on low graphics, and it was just the game that was maxing out the CPU it seems, but it is hard to tell because the lag spike happens so fast

Maybe check your Phys-X settings in nvidia control panel and see if it is set to CPU; if it is, switch it to the 940MX. Otherwise, if the game is loading the CPU to 100%, there is very little you'll be able to do other than take load off the CPU from other sources. Internet browsers can be little CPU/Memory hogs if you have any of those running in the background. Maybe run MSCONFIG to see what else is running at startup that could be disabled. Also, test with your anti-virus software disabled; this can cause spikes if it's grabbing files the game is trying to use.

Thanks for the reply! The game doesn't usually load the CPU to 100%. It's generally at around 50-60%, just occasionally during lag spikes. I'll have a look at the settings and the Nvidia control panel and try it without my anti-virus.

Hi tried what you suggested. Neither worked :(
Also checked the Startup programs and there was nothing out of the ordinary there
