Hi,

Starting about two months ago my computer started turning off on it's own. This would happen from anywhere from a couple minutes to a couple hours of use. It was fairly infrequent, but about a month ago I figured I better open the case up and make sure its all cleaned out so I dusted it out as much as I could without actually removing any components. I then updated windows 10, drivers, downloaded a program to let me monitor temps, ect. Problem seemed to stop completely until this afternoon when it completely shut off. I tried booting it back up and it immediately shut down after a few seconds. Opened it back up and dusted everything out again like before, and it still shuts down on its own. Happens anywhere from a few seconds after boot to a few minutes and it is very consistent this time around. I'm worried it is either the Power Supply or the Motherboard after checking around online for similar issues people have had. The computer is only two years old, but I didn't build this one I bought it prebuilt from Cyberpower. What are my options? I know just enough to probably repair it, but i'm not sure how to narrow down what is actually wrong. Any assistance would be most appreciated. Thank you for any replies received in advance!

EDIT: So I just tried it again and it booted up to the OS. I immediately loaded the temp monitoring tool and I watched my CPU core temp go from 70c to 89c and immediately shut off at 89c. What is the ideal temp my CPU is supposed to be at and could this be the problem? If so what can I do to fix it? CPU is an AMD FX 8320.

Solution
Clearly you have an overheating issue Elazul. :(

Ideal temps are 10-15C above ambient room temperature at idle and 60-65C under load.
You system is shutting down either due to the VRMs on the MB overheating or your CPU cooling system is letting you down.
As it was a prebuild you don't know what TIM was applied and it probably requires new paste to be applied.
Please list or update your system spec profile including the Tower case and fans, MB, PSU, RAM and cooling system for better advice.
My advice is to replace your TIM and apply AS5 or MX4 using the pea method to eliminate that possibility.
Depending on your cooling system and MB and any changes to Bios you may have made will determine other action.

Thanks! I ordered some MX4 off of Amazon and applied it using the pea method as recommended. Temps holding between 20C and 36C while i'm monitoring it right this moment. Appears that it worked!
