New build. What graphics card?

Hi,

This is my first computer build.

So far I have,

i5-7600k
Asus rog strix b250h gaming motherboard
G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 288-Pin -2400
phanteks red/black p400 case
hyper 212 led cpu cooler
1 tb sata
620 watt seasonic m12 bronze evo power supply

(yes i am going for the red and black theme) :)

I have a few questions that I was hoping could get answered by those far my experienced then myself.

1. I am doubting my choice on buying the i5-7600k as 1. I do not plan on overclocking (hence the motherboard I bought) and 2. I have started reading that many games coming out recently are performing much much better with hyper threading - i7. Will games most likely from now on require hyper threading to run smoothly and not bottleneck or will my i5-7600 suffice for the next 3-5 years being able to run any game?

2. The phanteks case I bought has the option to mount the fan from the psu downwards or upwards (into the case) - vents either way. What way is better to have the fan facing?

3. What would be a good graphics card that is reasonably future proof? I was thinking msi gtx 1070 gaming x or msi gtx 1060 gaming x. ( I have a 60hz screen, but will probably upgrade in the near future) The reason I am doubtful of the 1060 gaming x is that once again I have read that it is not performing well with newer games.

What got me into doubting what I chose was mostly reading about watch dogs 2 and how i5-7600k fell short and so did gtx 1060 yet both are suppose to be good.

Thanks in advance!

The 1070 can get the game over 60 FPS at ultra 1080p settings. The 1060 can also get the game over 60 FPS but only on very high settings. Things to know is leaks have a new 1070ti coming for $400 and the current 1070 will slide down to $329. This launch may be on the 26 if you can hold off till then. Get the 1070 for $330 if you can.

Old gen I5 is not worth the money anymore. Coffee lake too expensive. For your situation, I suggest the Ryzen build, 6 cores with hyperthreading, SSD is crucial for speed:

psu fan mount downwards, no hot air into the case

1070 is needed for 2k gaming, so get it now

Even if you're not going to overclock now, the i5-7600K (3.8GHz) runs faster than the locked version i5-7600 (3.5GHz), and the price difference is pretty negligible. It's a bit of a price jump to get to an i7-7700, even the locked one.

The 6 GB GTX 1060 is still quite a bit cheaper than the 1070. If you have the cash to get a 1070, also consider increasing your RAM from 8GB to 16GB.
