My CPU is capable of frying eggs on boot

Hi Guys,

First, my system specifications:

AMD 8150 Processor (Stock)
Corsair H80i Cooler
Gigabyte 970GA MOBO
MSI HD 6850 (now switched to Gigabyte RX460 OC 2GB Graphics)
Corsair Vengence 4GB x 2 RAM
Coolermaster PowerPlus 550 PSU

Recently I decided to change my old graphics card (MSI HD6800 series) with a new Gigabyte RX460 2GB OC edition.
I opened my system up, cleaned everything thoroughly (I live in an extremely dusty environment), cleaned the old thermal paste (pre-applied on H80i) and applied Coolemaster MasterGel Pro (pea method) and put everything back carefully.

When I tried to boot the desktop, the CPU starts heating up to a point that it shuts the system down within a minute. I tried resetting the cooler with fresh paste but it would not help. I also tried checking the H80i pump if it works by disconnecting the fans to hear the pump spin. I could feel some vibration and the radiator pipes getting hot. So I assume it is not the cooler which has the problem.

I am unable to check my BIOS as the system shuts down before I am able to check.
I am unable to fathom the actual cause of this heatup as everything was working fine with my old GPU until I changed it with the new GPU and reapplied the paste.

I assume CM MasterGel Pro might not be working for me so I have now ordered AS5 to see if it is the paste that is causing problems.

Meanwhile, would anyone be able to gauge the problem and guide me if I am doing something wrong here?

Solution
Hm. I think I'd almost try a new cooler then as it should not be getting that hot. Maybe something like a hyper 212 evo. One nice thing about air is with the right setup, there is less to go wrong.
Are you certain the cooler is seated properly? Pull the cooler back off and clean off the paste. Some guys do differently but I like to use about a dot of paste, preferably arctic silver 5, in the center of the cpu and to use my finger to spread it evenly.

There are various ways to do it, but that's always worked well for me. Also, how is airflow and is your radiator clean? Might try the stock air cooler on it if you still have it. If the stock air cooler did better after you've tried items above, could be an issue starting with your aio.

Unfortunately I do not have my stock cooler. :(

I tried setting up paste with the pea method, guess will try and use your method with the AS5.
Any thoughts on the cooler? I can feel the radiator pipes to be very hot around 4-5 inches from the pump unit and remaining pipes along with the radiator are cool. Could this display a problem with my H80i?

Also I hope it has got nothing to do with my new GPU I assume..!

Hi..!

I have H80i installed and both the fans in the radiator assembly are spinning fine. My cooler is plugged to CPU_FAN 3pin and the Corsair Link connector is plugged to the USB port.
