PC crash during prime95 or when running a game

Hi,

my PC has been crashing for a few weeks now, mostly when running a game I've been playing without any issues until now.

I've googled possible solutions and ran GPU FurMark Burn-in test, and to be honest I didn't really know what exactly to look for, but my GPU temp was showing stable 37C.

I've started a memtest last night to check RAM, and when I left for work this morning it was on the 4th pass (no errors yet).

When running prime95 small FFT, PC crashes without any error notification from prime 95. I've monitored the temperatures with AMD Overdrive, and my thermal margins during prime 95 were hovering around 15C.

CPU is AMD
GPU is ATI Radeon
8gb RAM

Any help is welcome! Thanks!

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I never did any kind of overclocking on this PC.

I don't have a spare PSU. I've been checking the voltages in HWMonitor as well while running prime95, and all were pretty much around the targeted values (+12, +5 and +3 V values).

My guess is either overheating or a short somewhere, but the thermal margin reading from AMD Overdrive would suggest that the temperatures are within bounds.

My understanding is that the sudden restarts/crashes/blue screens are the PCs way of preventing major damage to the system.

I bought a compressed air can and new thermal paste. Opened the case and blown cleaned everything, reseated RAM and reapplied thermal paste. It wasn't particularly dusty inside, but I think the problem was the overheating of cpu (maybe bad thermal paste application for a while back).

Anyway, the problem seems to be solved, PC doesn't crash anymore.

Cheers!
