A friend is selling his zotac 970 for £120 but i recently picked up a r9 280x for £60 and wanted to know if its worth the upgrade.
I like some of the features of nvidia cards better and have read how they are quieter and such
thanks

Yeah the FX series is outdated and it's beginning to show in modern games.

It will certainly be a limiting factor in more CPU intensive games if paired with a 970. But equally you can always upgrade the CPU at a later date.

The 970 does boast a good performance improvement over the 280X. So it's dependant on what you want to achieve, and what the rest of your system can handle.

So yes, depending on the rest of your system, it holds a very decent performance improvement. AMDs typically run hotter, ergo tend to generate more noise depending on it's cooling system. But this is more down to the relevant manufacturer (MSI, GA, ASUS) as opposed to the Graphic chip owner.

£120 is a decent price used, if he's a friend and you can negotiate a bit more of a discount, and the rest of your system can handle it easily enough, I can't see why not.

Sorry I probably should of sent my specs they are:
Cpu: amd FX 6300
Gpu: R9 280x
Mobo: gigabyte ga-m68mt-s2
Psu: Corsair vs550
Ram: 2x4gb Kingston hyperx fury ram
Case: Aerocool Aero-500
Hdd: 1tb western digital caviar blue

one of the main problems is that i could probably do with an upgrade in the sense of cpu, which would mean needing a new cpu mobo and ram
