Without GPU or Memory PC beeps, but when everything is installed it doesn't POST

Hello, I'm having an issue with my PC, an 8 year old PC, that I replaced a few months ago with a new PC. The computer has an ASUS P5Q Deluxe Motherboard and a Core 2 Duo E8500, I had been using it without any issues, I installed a new Linux OS and it worked perfectly, but when I attached a couple of extra hard drives the PC turns on but doesn't beep (so no POST). When I disconnect the GPU I get the corresponding error beep and when I disconnect RAM I also get the corresponding beeps (I tryied using different modules)

What else can I do to figure out what's going on?

Thanks.

This is tough one. Good news is, there seem to be only two possible suspects left - GPU and mobo. Bad news is, I can't tell which one is failing. It is more likely GPU, but it is also quite possible that your motherboard is near its end too. I'm afraid to further narrow down the problem, you may need to consult some local comp repair shop.
Problem started with adding extra drives? Go back to last known good configuration, and see if that still works. If it does, start adding those drives by one to find which one causes trouble. Note that it could be caused by faulty drive, but also problem could lie in faulty cables (both data and power) or faulty slot on motherboard. And finally, although that would be rare, but your power supply could become insufficient to power all those extra drives.

Thanks for your answer, yes my problem started when I added extra drives, but I tried disconnecting all the drivers and no beeps happened. I had configured my PC to boot from a USB, and I tried with and without the USB device plugged in.

How many RAM sticks you tried? If systems beeps for no memory, but won't with memory, the first things to check are RAM sticks and RAM slots on motherboard. The best route is to find a ram stick that you know it works and test it with every slot of motherboard - but since this is DDR2, I guess it can be rather hard trick to do.
However, did you tried with RAM and without GPU? If yes, and beep error was no-GPU code, then perhaps it's just failed GPU, and finding another GPU for a test should be much easier than finding DDR2 ram.

Thanks for your reply, I have 5 sticks so I tried several and nothing happened. I tried withou GPU and, yes, I received the NO GPU code, when I plugged the GPU nothing happened, so that may be a sign of a failed GPU?

Well, I doubt all 5 sticks would fail at same time. Especially that at least some of them were not installed when problems happened. It is also rather unlikely that all 4 RAM slots on motherboard would fail at same time (although not impossible). If you did test each ram slot separately and that didn't change anything, GPU becomes the main suspect. You can test your GPU at another machine, or test another GPU at yours, whichever will be easier to do, as both methods are equal in confirming GPU fault.

I switched to a GTX 1070, the PC booted fine (just 1 beep), for a second I think I something similar to this:

but then I could access the OS just fine. When I switched back to my GTX 260, the original GPU, I received the image I show above these lines and when I restarted the PC and entered the BIOS settings, this is what I saw:

How can I know if this is a GPU or Motherboard issue? I'm afraid a capacitor might be failing (I've never experienced capacitor failures so I don't know how to detect it or what it looks like when they do fail)

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
