I recently got a NAS from a friend, a Blackarmor Seagate NAS220. I have plugged it in to the router. I installled the discovery software and it didnt come up at all. I have tried installing the software on Windows 7 and Windows 10, to which both gave me the same result. I have used the reset button multiple times. I have done network scans as well and it doesnt show up at all even though it is directly connected to my router. I checked my routers devices and it was not shown there either.

Does anybody know how to fix this??
Thanks

So, you can get your hands dirty, and see what makes it tick inside, and start hacking ;)

From Seagate page I saw that this NAS runs (probably, heavily modified) Linux OS. If you open the box, and look at the controller - there are good chances there is a ready-made connector, or at least pads, where one can connect serial (TTL) console. Web searches did not reveal anyone doing that, but I might be wrong. You can get ready-made USB-to-TTL serial adapters (popular along Raspberry Pi community).
To be clear you connected it with the Ethernet cable and not USB?

If so then if it's not showing up on your routers connected devices list then that suggests something is broken with the NAS. Was it working correctly for the friend before, or did they have it in the closet for awhile before they gave it to you?

The NAS doesn't show up on any network scan after it has been connected and the same when I type in the routers IP into Chrome.

I don't know if it was working correctly before. It is connected with only ethernet it shows to lights but I constantly hear the fan spinning up and then down, every half a hour.
