As the title says I'm currently trying to upgrade my cpu. I'm currently using a amd fx 8350 and im looking to upgrade to a good intel cpu. i5 or i7 I would like to get a cpu that can keep up with 144hz monitor. I'm guessing i7 is probably my best option for that. However I think I'm gonna have to upgrade my MOBO and my ram sticks before I can use anything skylake. As I understand it ill need DDR4 ram to use skylake cpu. I currently have ddr3 but I'm confused as to what are my options in the MOBO department or if I even need to do that. I know I'm gonna have to get new ram cause mine are 1.5v.

So my question is what are my options?

System Info

MOBO: GA 970A UD3 Gigabyte

CPU: FX-8350

GPU: GTX 1070

Ram: 4 DDR3 4GB 1333Mhz

PSU: Green 650W

I also use a HDD don't think that matters but thought i'd throw it in there. Trying to do this in under $450 if upgrading mobo and ram is more it's fine ill just get the cpu done at a later date.

Here is a current part list that im looking at https://pcpartpicker.com/list/GYDbgL. I'm wondering if its that much of an upgrade or if I'd be better off waiting after getting the mobo and the ram to buy an i7.

You need to replace your motherboard. I wouldn't get a 7600k though, that CPU is pretty much completely obsolete now. Get an i5 8400 or 8600K and the cheapest z370 board you can find would be my suggestion. You'd also be well served with an R5 1600, an OK cooler, and some fast RAM, but it would take a little more effort to tune the system to be able to run at speeds rivaling the newer intel chips.

So something more like this? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/wknhhq Do you think staying with an amd processor would be better or should I switch to an intel?

Yeah i think im gonna wait tho and get the 8600k. It seems like a substantial upgrade to me. The 8400k isnt gonna give me as much of a upgrade. I want to run 2 3000mhz ram sticks at least. Updated build just for the hell of it. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LhVPwV

Thanks for the help.
