I have a 3570k but i need more memory. I have the money for the 8600k new board and ram but idk when they will be available. Also the price has gone up $20 in a week. Or i could buy a used 7700k for 100 and buy that board and memory. which would you do. Wait for 8600k, buy used 7700k, or stick with the 3570k and buy more ram (dont really want to do this unless there are good arguments in favor)

Mostly used for gaming with some programming.

max i can spend is around 600 but the cheaper the better.

Solution
A used 7700k for $100 is probably not legitimate.

I agree, sucks to spend money on RAM you can't use on a future build, but way more economical then replaces CPU/Motherboard/RAM

If you look at it like this you are deciding whether or not to buy a processor with 6 (8600k) effective threads or a processor with 8 (7700k) effective threads. To me its an easy decision to go with the 7700k as long as you trust who you are buying it from that you aren't getting burned.

Not the best way to look at it. 7700K is just four cores with Hyper-Threading, and the 8600K is six physical cores. The extra threads from Hyper-Threading help, but not as much as real cores. In a lot of scenarios the 8600K would perform better. Even if you had eight threads in use, the 8600K might perform better, because the additional two cores will complete more work.

But at $100, if you trust the guy selling it, a 7700K is a steal. It would have better performance/$ at that price.
