DIDN'T KNOW WHICH CATEGORY TO PUT THIS IN, NONE SEEMED TO FIT, PLEASE MOVE IF NEEDED.

Sigh... ok, so i've been having issues with my PC lately, its shutting itself off completely at random. At first, i thought ok, maybe its a PSU issue, graphics cards drawing too much power or something, because it seemed to be happening when gaming, but theres two reasons i don't think thats the case.

#1, the only game ive been playing is WoW, which i know is a lot more CPU intensive.

#2, i tested one time, when it shut down, i let it come back on and i just walked away, didn't open anything, didn't touch anything, when i came back a couple hours later, my lockscreen was up, which only happens if it restarts. if it goes to sleep, it just goes straight to the desktop when i hit a key, no lock screen.

So, more details on whats happening. Well, first it just powers down, no warning, no sounds, no anything, just straight black screen and everything off, then it powers back on after around 2-3 seconds. I don't have to manually turn it back on. I will say that it does seem to happen MORE OFTEN when i'm playing WoW. seems like about every 10 minutes. but sometimes, it'll go hours without doing it even when playing WoW, other times, it reboots several times in a row without even hitting the desktop (though this is rare).

I don't want to start pulling things apart to RMA when i have no idea what the actual issue is, so any guidance on probable causes would be great. is there any software i can use to find a log of some sort on whats happening, why it powered down last?

I have run Windows SFC, a Malwarebytes scan, and updated my motherboard bios and Radeon firmware. It continues to happen. Still, sometimes hours without a crash, other times, 2-3 times in a row before i can even launch anything. This is driving me insane. I just built the PC in May and i built it to AVOID things like this. All the headaches that come with trying to do more than basic things on a store-bought machine. Getting 12fps on an HP all-in-one. I wanted something that wouldn't fail me, wouldn't be bottlenecked just playing a basic MMO, and for the first few months, it was amazing, and now this.

as an added note, i'm reconsidering it possibly being the graphics cards. i've noticed when playing WoW, it used to be pretty stable at 100fps. now its not stable, and its nowhere close to 100. its bouncing between 30-50. Could one of the cards possibly be shorting the board or something?

I thought that as a possibility also. It's just hard for me to believe anything but the cards are the issue because they're the only things on the rig that weren't bought brand new.

When i ran the HWInfo program, both cards were fine in the temp department.

UPDATE, i think i figured out the cause. The 24 pin connection on the motherboard seems to have somehow gotten loose, i pushed it back in as much as i could, and the board was powering on and off extremely quickly while doing so. I think i got it all the way back in, but it doesn't seem to be "clicking" in like i believe its supposed to. it hasn't powered off since doing this, but i don't want to say for certain because like i said it was sometimes staying on for hours without a shutdown previously. I do still think one of the graphics cards is dead/dying because my FPS never returned to normal, but thats not an issue right now, i was only using those cards until Vega was released. As soon as i have the money, and the custom variants come out, i plan on getting a Vega 64.

If you overclocked you Graphics card then remove the overclock and then test to see if your pc still crashes
