Alright so I built my pc about a year and a half ago and everything was working fine. However yesterday I went out for about 2 hours, came home and I had an error screen saying that my cpu has overheated and gave me an option to enter the bios. I checked the temperature on all of my other components and they were all below 30°C. I thought the pc had overclocked itself for some reason as when I entered the extreme tuner in the asus bios it said that the cpu was turned up to around 4000 mghz. I turned off all oc settings and even turned the mghz down to 800 to try to get online to do some research as my phone is a hassle to use. Even then the pc wouldnt boot passed the cpu heating error and entering the bios.

I gave up for the day and went to bed. This moring I awoke to the same issue although I was able to get into the pc for a bit as I left it out over night. I need help asap, thanks in advance

Cpu: i5 6700k
Cpu cooler: Kraken X62
Mobo: Asus Rog Maximus VIII
if any other info is needed let me know

I haven`t been able to get in to measure the load but in the bios it goes up to 90°C then turns off. Tonight I am going to replace the thermal paste and hope that works. The aio tubes are pretty hot compared to the ambient tempurature of the case when I feel them I'm not sure what that means though.

Should I contact newegg for a new one? Or do you think it could be repaired?
