Will an i5 6600K bottleneck a GTX 1070?

Hey there!

I'm currently running an i5 6600K with a GTX 960.
Since I'm getting a GTX 1070 cheap, I'm wondering if the i5 6600K will bottleneck it.

The question is:
Will the i5 6600K be fine, or should I upgrade to an i7 7700K since it fits on the same motherboard and will eventually get cheaper because of the release of the 8th gen atm?

Stuff to consider imo would be the higher clock speed of the 7700K compared to the 6600K, the 4 additional threads - which could maybe even decrease gaming performance, who knows - and the architectural optimizations which happened with the 14nm process going from 6th to 7th gen.

What I'm actually doing with my rig: 40% 1080p gaming, 50% watching videos, 10% of code compiling and video rendering

If you have a 60 Hz monitor, quite unlikely. If you have a 144 Hz monitor, maybe in some games. Overclocking your 6600K will obviously help in the case it is bottlenecking.

Regarding the 7700K getting cheaper due to the release of 8th Gen: this has never been the case in the past. Previous gen Intel CPUs have usually seen little to no drop in price after the next gen is released.

just get this 1070 already, no problems at all my friend. and its a good upgrade from the CPU as well. if you dont intend to change everything for the new gen. its worth upgrading it since the i7 7700k is going to be a strong cpu for a couple of years.

Won't go with the 7700K then, unless the price does indeed fall enough.
And if the 6600K really bottlenecks - at least I then make use of the unlocked processor by OCing it which I didn't do until now because the 960 2GB was the bottleneck until now anyways :p
