Do I have enough wattage?

Hello, I am upgrading my PC:
Ga-78lmt-s2
Fx 6300
(Unknown cheap) 8 GB ram
WD 1 TB HHD
GTX 950
Corsair CX500 power supply
Corsair H100i V2 AIO Cooler

I am upgrading this from a GTX 950 to an MSI GTX 1080 gaming X8G, I am aware of the bottlenecking that will occure with my processor and this graphics card, but I plan to upgrade the motherboard and CPU in the future to.

When I went to Newegg to buy the graphics card I seen it had a recomendation of a 500W power supply, which is what I'm running, but I have seen a lot of people say get a 700 or better, I do plan on upgrading my PSU but I want to get the GPU first, without overclocking PCpartpicker says I will have about 125 Watts left over, I don't plan on overclocking anything, but will the extra 125W be enough for my CPU and gpu to be under load and still be under 500W?

You need a good quality 550W PSU.

I recommend the Seasonic Focus 550W.

Your MSI GTX 1080 gaming X8G is a highly overclocked GTX1080 and requires more than the usual GTX1080; namely two 8 pin pcie power connectors.
Your CX500 does have that, but you are pushing the limit.
You could try it.
Corsair will have sufficient protective circuitry to protect your parts if it should get overloaded.
If power is insufficient, you should see artifacts or other symptoms when under heavy gaming load.

Would a cx750 work?
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139199&ignorebbr=1

It has 4 x 6+2 pin EPS connectors, is that would I need?

I would stay away from the CX's.

They are still in the budget PSU category.

If you really want a Corsair go with the TXM or better.

Although the Seasonic Focus 550W is better than both and enough to power it.

That has 2x 6+2 pin EPS connectors, which would fill in for the 2 8 pin connects that the 1080 needs right? And there is nothing else that i need those connectors for?

Your machine and new $600 card, not mine.

correct

6+2 is exactly the same as a 8-pin

and yes those cables are specifically for the gpu alone

i strongly suggest you get a decent 650w psu as you are buying new and intend to migrate it to another build

dont cheap out when you want it to last

Do you have a recommendation? I'm good with any modular, as long as it comes with the connectors i need, I have a hard time choosing these, to scared I'm going to get something that is low budget or not up to the right standards and fry my system

Seasonic makes some PSU's for both of them, Seasonic is a manufacturer.. (OEM) ;)

The other 2 just have them made with their brand by various OEMs.

That's why I stick with Seasonic or Super Flower. :)
