Its (quite literally) a hot CPU. It would seem that no retailers (even MicroCenter) have this chip in stock. There are one or two on Ebay, however people are asking $800 plus. I've never paid enough attention to the "mainstream" CPU market to know when these demand bubbles pop and availability is restored.

Does anyone have any insight?
- I made the decision to purchase all of the hardware for a Coffee Lake build except for the I7 (and am going to be using the lowest-end I3 until availability comes around). Is this a mistake and should I return everything while I can for Ryzen (if availability is too far away)?

Thanks

well mainly in germany i phoned few of the companys that are sellers and they said me somewere near december first week they are expecting to have them.. so basically for xmas:) there are also many resellers here in germany . the cpu goes here for about 600-700e.... In my eyes intel missed there opportunity here.... if the cpu is in stock at xmas it will be to late.. 2018 febuary or somewere near that month zen refresh should come out and you already can say it that it will be cheaper again then intel :) if you need a cpu like really now and fast- ryzen is the way if you can wait then do so :) intel is still the gaming chip to go.

Thanks for the help everyone! I think I will wait until tomorrow when I receive my board and CPU and then file for a return ASAP. I purchased the Intel set-up not thinking /knowing how long the delay may actually be. Many sources seem to confirm everyone's answers. Thank you all!

if you are only purely gaming and just sometimes browsing the internet- get the 7700k as it is identical in gaming performance to the 8700k. the 8700k is more a fast response from intel to the ryzen hype. Before Coffelake It was 4 cores/8threads from intel top dog vs 8 cores/16 threads from amd top dog cpu. Now intel has leveled the playing field but everyone already new that becouse of more ipc and a better core performance intel was going to dominate the gaming benchmarks :) the 7700k started to drop now in prices and the z270 motherboards as far as i have read have more features for the same cash tag as a z370... so it is just purely your choise :) but remember that the z270 1151 socket is a dead end. Best what you will get is a 7700k on it that is it. AM4 on the other hand should last few more years . People hope even until zen 3 comes witch accourding to amd plans will be released in 2019.

Nonsense The coffee lake cpus will be readily available the start of November, the prices right now are gouged. Saying December or even 2018 is complete rubbish.

And November 21th and still nothing, still no date ! Intel is clearly trying to stop the hemorragy by rendering public a CPU they don't have the capacity to produce yet...
