Hello, my system specs are :

OS : Windows 7 Enterprise 32-bit
CPU : AMD Athlon II X4 620
MOBO : MSI 785GTM-E45
HDD : 500GB
RAM : 2x2GB DDR2 800Mhz
GPU : Integrated Radeon HD 4200 on Mobo
PSU : LC Power 600W
Monitor : ViewSonic 21.5" 1920x1080p@60Hz

My friend gave me a working Radeon HD 4650 1GB DDR3 Video card (1xVGA,1xDVI,1xHMDI)
This is huge deal for this pc, as the integrated GPU on mobo is really bad, i can watch movies and that stuff fine, but for light gaming it's terrible, i need this to work so i can play some games.

And so i tried instaling the new gpu, booted to bios, everything fine, video card was working and all, then tried to run Normal mode on windows, got error from monitor "Out of Range", i serached a bit with people suggesting i should boot to Safe mode and change refresh rate of the monitor, tried all 3 safe modes, none worked with same error "Out of Range" displaying from my monitor, then i check gpu information on web, and saw that i can only run this gpu at lowered resolution, but to achive 1920x1080p i need to use HDMI. Now the problem lies here, my monitor has only VGA and DVI inputs.
I would like to know, can i use HDMI to VGA addapter and use my VGA Cable to connect to my monitor, and have it work at 1080p, or use HDMI to DVI and use DVI cable, either way, should i buy addapter and just check? Or some you good old folks know the end result ?

Would really like to get some help, and sorry if my English is not the best.

Thank you in advance, best regards

Alex

An HDMI to DVI would work. I would not go with HDMI to VGA adaptor because the quality would go dowin a lot and they are expensive and bulky, and need extra power, With DVI the quality would be the same and they are 5 bucks and need no power, you might get them made right into the cable.

Thank you for your answer, i ordered HDMI to DVI cable. meanwhile i cannot find what is the maximum supported resolutions for vga, just to try if the card works, since i heard you can get image trought port on gpu even when gpu is dead (from the onboard gpu) to get to bios and that.

the spec i found are here
https://www.cnet.com/products/ati-radeon-hd-4650-graphics-card-radeon-hd-4650-512-mb-series/specs/

but i am confused to oblivion, can anyone redirect me to proper way, as to what is the maximum supported resolution i can get with VGA, DVI and HDMI, thank you again

So, i just lowered the resolution to 1280x1024p then turned pc off, instaled gpu back in, booted right into windows at 1920x1080p with no problem, even tho i lowered the resolution before adding the gpu, with windows asking me constantly to run index score again because new hardware was found :

Graphic score went from 3.4 to 4.9
Gaming Graphic score went from 4.8 to 6.4

check the drivers via device manager, it says it's up to date, i am guessing it's because older card ( this is from ATI age, graphic that used low power had same drivers or something like that) windows is running fine, didn't do any benchmark to test, will try some league of legends later, but who knows what fixed it, myb setting lower resolution before adding card, maybe something else, anyway thank you for answering lperreault21.

Cheers.

You are welcome, The score index does not really show anything. Other that it seems like it is ok.
