Recently upgraded to a 1080ti and am using a i5-6500. I am running on a 4k monitor but will shortly be going 35" 3440 100hz ultrawide with gsync. I play competitive games but casually (LOL, Rocket league, PUBG) with friends. Picking up Destiny 2 when it releases.

I'm debating dropping 250 on a 6700k just to get some extra performance. Necessary? or save the cash?

There is no point as there will be not Performance changes but probably 2 FPS at least... try and invest money for an Intel Core I7 instead because the processor you will buy is not gonna upgrade you that much... ;)

I don't think it is necessary at all. The i5 is still a great CPU

If you have a Z170 motherboard you can downgrade the BIOS and OC your CPU and any locked 6th generation CPU such as the i7 6700, in that case i would go for that one or just stick to the i5 like i said it can play any game very well.

If you don't have a Z170 mobo, then get a 7700K, it is a better option than the 6700K. Higher base clocks and better OC if you have a Z270 board
