i have a pc using 4 sticks of 2gb ddr3 ram, so 8gb total, my motherboard is able to support up to 32gb, and i have access to an 8gb ddr3 ram stick and would like to use it for my pc, how should i go about doing this? can i simply take out any stick and replace it with the 8gb to give me a total of 14gb or do i have to re arrange the sticks in a certain configuration?

Solution
Just take any stick out and replace it with the 8GB stick.

Fair warning though - there is a chance your computer might not boot with a different stick in there.

why wouldnt it boot? must the ram be in a certain configuration, im not really, the best when it comes to pc's do i have to do something in the bios maybe to make it work? also, would placing that ram destroy any components or the ram itself?

Some motherboards don't like it when the RAM isn't of the exact same specs in each pf the slots, but then again some motherboards are OK with it. It's a crapshoot, basically.

There's nothing you can really do in the BIOS to resolve it IF it doesn't work.

And if it's incompatible it won't destroy anything, so let's not go there.
