My son has a GTX 1060 6gb in his i5-4590 machine. Asus Z97 Pro Gamer mobo, 16gb Crucial Ballistix Tracer ram, 500 gb Samsung 850 evo ssd. He currently games on a Samsung 22" 1080p monitor and I am about to buy him a 27" 144hz 1080p for Christmas (Asus VG278Q) and I am sure he will continue using both monitors. The plan is to invest in a GTX 1080 or ti within 6 months to 1 year and then rebuild the main system from Haswell to Coffeelake or maybe even Icelake or Tiger lake by then. My son hopes to add 2 more 144hz monitors to the setup when it is complete. My question really is - should I plan to invest in the 1080ti now or will the 1080 be good enough for now because there will obviously be something new from Nvidia by the time we re-build and by 2 more monitors?

Thank you! I had no idea what was happening with Nvidia. Gotta watch for pricing for next Christmas. Now I know what I'm looking for. ... of course now I am wondering if the GTX 2080 will push 3 monitors at 144hz in next year's games or if i'll need the 2080ti lol. lets hope I can get away with the "under 500" version .
