Hello,
I've just bought a new psu (corsair 1000x) and installed it in my computer. It's the first time I've done this so I was very careful and connected everything the same way it was with the old psu. After a triple check, I finally plugged it in, flipped the switch on and everything seemed fine, the leds on my ram turned on so I thought it was fine. When i pressed the power button, the psu made a brief screech, as if the fan was being held back. It turned on, the fan spun for a while, everything else seemed to work, case fans on, cpu fan on, hdd light on, but no power to the gpu, and the pc didnt seem to fully start, since the rgb on my keyboard stayed at default . Please tell me I didnt fry mu gpu, it's a brand new one as well.

Solution
If the gpu was not reciving power, and there was no video output, I thougt that you may have pluged wrongly the cables that go into the psu, because they are preaty similar to the ones that go into the gpu.
But you should defintly return it to the shop, just to be sure.

Is it a modular psu (the cables come separated from the psu)?

Yes, it's modular. I refitted the old psu and everything works fine. I'm taking the new one back to the shop. Any idea as of what might have caused this, besides the psu being faulty? Much appreciated.

Is the psu end 8pin, or 6+2pin?

6+2pin, and it should say something like pci-e

Yes, that's the one I used, with the 6+2 into the gpu. I also tried another, identical cable, into a different slot in the psu, but the issue persists.

Also you should check if the psu has a switch between wattage, e.g in my country we use 220w and I had to flip that switch because if i would have left it on 110w my pc would have probably fried.

That's one of the first things I checked, but it's not the issue. Thank you very much for answering. It looks like it's a faulty psu. I'll take it to the shop and come back with an update and I'll mark your answer with the pins as a solution just in case someone does that wrong and stumbles upon the post.
