Dear Community,

I need some assistance please. I recently purchased an MSI B250M Gaming Pro motherboard, and Patriot Viper Elite 4GB DDR4 2400MHz DRAM (Desktop Memory) CL16 1.2V Grey DIMM (288-pin) Model #: PVE44G240C6GY.

However, I don't know if the RAM is compatible with my motherboard. I couldn't find anything online about it after searching for a good while, so I decided to open this thread in hopes of somebody being able to assist me.

Here are the links to each item:

MOBO: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130985&cm_re=msi_b250m_gaming_pro-_-13-130-985-_-Product

RAM: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820225077&Tpk=n82e16820225077

I made an attempt to talk to a Newegg customer support representative, but sadly, they too were unsure and directed me to contact either Patriot or MSI directly. Unfortunately, today is a Saturday, and they are closed.

Thanks in advance!

There's also a note on the site: "1. DDR4 2133 MHz and higher memory modules will only run at maximum of DDR4 2133 MHz due to IntelR chipset limitation when using Skylake CPU. 2. DDR4 2400 MHz and higher memory modules will only run at maximum of DDR4 2400 MHz due to IntelR chipset limitation when using Kabylake CPU."

It will probably work but the speed you get will be dependent on the CPU also.

the compatibility list is just the models that MSI tested with, they cannot test all modules so they test a wide array of models and brands to ensure mass compatibility. models on the list are ensured to work as they have been tested but it is by no means the only modules that will work. Patriot is a known memory maker if the type, speeds, and voltages are supported by the board you should be fine.

Silly question, but how would I know if it works or not? It's going to be a fresh install/build, this PC. Will it show or not show in the BIOS if it works or not?

I will be using an i5-7500 CPU
