i purchased a used pc "not specifically for gaming" it has a core 2 duo 2.8 ghz integrated graphics 8 gb ram and 1 tb harddrive. I am trying to make it into a gaming pc so i wanted to try it out in stock form to see what i should upgrade . HOWEVER i tried to play tf2 but it was so laggy i couldnt play , like if i moved it would take about 15 secs to respond. So what i wanted to know is that is the cpu just not good or are the integrated graphics holding it back. (i ran the game on the lowest settings possible and the computer was restarted so their is no old files taking up space)the cpu is a lga775 socket and i have a 50$ budget to upgrade it :)

mmm you are better selling all and pucharsing a dell optiplex. Tf2 is a Intensive Cpu. But that core 2 duo is crappy so damm. And about the gpu, the Integrated of that core 2 duo is bad too. Damm the best that you can do is pucharse a used gpu something like the gtx 650 ti boost from ebay.

I’m not trying to get 140 FPS on intesive games I just want around 30-40 on medium settings to I can play the game. So any cheap gpu’s that can be perfect for my CPU ( core 2 duo 2.8 ghz)

you dont go to get 30-40 fps with that in medium ( at least no t in 1080p)

Hardware is so old it's not even worth upgrading.
