Here's the story :
Have a GA-Z270MX Gaming 5 mobo on a screaming deal. Want to upgrade my living room HTPC, currently on an i3-3240 with 120GB SSD and 4GB's of RAM. I am using a Scythe Big Shuriken 2, for silent operations, with 3 x Be Quiet 120mm fans (sides) and 2 x Be Quiet 80mm fans at the back. Speed and silence are the most important things for me, but I only do web browsing, office work, music streaming, basic image editing, etc, on the computer. Oh, of course - and I watch movies and TV series on it. =)
So, peak of my budget is about 350 CAD (aprx. 280 USD). Canada Computers has one remaining i3-7350K, for 180 CAD (apprx. 145 USD). I have also found a used i7-7700K for 350 CAD (apprx. 280 USD - that's about the peak of my budget), and could also get a new i5-7600K, for about 280 CAD. Also have available an open box 7500 for about 200 CAD. Which of the four would you guys recommend for my use case? I'm leaning towards the 7350K, for these reasons (but open to being told I'm potentially wrong) :
1. Price. I know the 7350K was overpriced on launch, but this is a very good sale price, and I already have an aftermarket cooler and the Z270 board (not that I NEED to overclock);
2. Single-threaded speed. I think that's the most important performance factor for my use case. I could go for a light overclock (say, 4.6-4.7 GHz) and not create that much more heat, thereby still keeping my silent operation. I don't think that would be possible on a quad-core solution.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
