so i just bought a gt710 for gaming purposes i was on a tight budget and when i inserted it into my motherboard the PCI-E slot was too big for the gpu and when i plugged it in connect the vga adapter all i could see was my bios hanging up and giving 3 beeps with an interval of atleast 20 secs and after that all i could see was a distort between orange and black

the PCIe slot on the motherboard is x16 a full length card slot.
PCIe can support the card which is x8. not all the pins are needed for x8 hence the shorter card. it will still plug into the PCIe slot and will function properly.
look at this article you can clearly see which pins are masked off to make the interface slower

the card cannot use the extra bandwidth so the pins not needed.
