Hey so I wanted to give my computer an upgrade for the holidays and was thinking around the $200 range. What would be the best thing I could do to improve performance in games. I don't really need an ssd.
specs:
AMD athlan x4 860k
Rx 460 2gb version
8gb of gddr3 ram
MSI A68hm grenade motherboard
micro atx case
Should I go for a new motherboard and cpu or a new gpu?

Solution

well for better upgrade, newer gen would be better, but 200$ ain't gonna cut it for something like Ryzen 3 + B350 mobo + 2x4 GB DDR4...

the GPU u had now is good enough for AAA titles at med-high on 1080p :) that's why ur best bet might be on finding a good deal of used CPU + mobo from the 2nd/3rd/4th gen Intel series
for gaming? that would be your GPU
something like RX 570 / 1060 3 GB would be a nice improvement

AMD themselves does mention that the Athlon u have now is pretty much geared toward online gaming more than for the AAA titles, so upgrading GPU might gonna cause some bottleneck in your performance...

i wanted to suggest a mobo CPU RAM but with the current budget? i don't think that's possible, unless u're willing to buy a used part, something like a H81 + i5 4460 or if u can, a Z97 + i5 4690k [ur choice would probably either from 2nd/3rd/4th gen intel CPU, as those CPU supports DDR3 RAM, which should help cutting some cost off the list]

if u can't find those kind of stuff, the GPU upgrade might be ur only option :)
