Intel Core i5-8400 - which motherboard for this?

I understand this is a 1151 socket but i read something about version 2 and then some not supporting it so just want to be clear.

Building a budget gaming PC so looking for a motherboard in the £50 region.

The only chipset that currently supports Coffee lake is z370 and those motherboards are well beyond 50£
On your budget i'd suggest going with a Ryzen 5 1600.

There arent any motherboards in that price range available yet for the 8th gen cpus, currently only the more expensive Z370 motherboards are available for the new platform.

Only Z370 motherboards are compatible with this cpu. Their price starts from ~ $120.
For £50 you can't get a compatible motherboard at the moment.
Low cost coffee lake motherboards are scheduled to get released in next year.

im in rush to build it.

If theres non released when im ready i might just go with the Intel Core I5-7600K as theres not too much price difference.

read up on both chips. the older intel cpu wont run on the newer 370 chipset and the new coffee lake cpu need the newer mb they wont run on the older intel mb chipsets.

Does it need to be Intel for some reason? The Ryzen 5 1600 is a lot better than the 7600k and cheaper than both i5s.

No doesnt have to be intel I did actually look at the Ryzen 5 1600 a while back too but people said to wait for the Coffee Lake i5s.

However after comparing them it might be worth going with the Ryzen 5 1600 plus as you say is cheaper
