PREVIOUS Thread Title:
".bat File/s: Disappears when Windows explorer refreshed. Only USB, not HDD's.. WHY???!!"

I have an autoexec.bat file (for MB flash on USB) which initially displays in explorer, until I click 'refresh' or 'exit / enter' the drive folder again. At that point it's no longer displayed. However, if I check in CMD DOS prompt with 'DIR' it always shows. So it's not really going anywhere, it's just a magic trick that Windows 7 is pulling on me... But WHY???!!! IS there any way to rectify this?...

If I type ANY ONE of the following commands into CMD DOS prompt; -s -r -h -a then go back to the USB Windows explorer folder - Bingo Bango... it shows again... But, only until I refresh or exit/enter the directory again, then the file stops displaying again... It's THERE the whole time (as shown by CMD prompt), but Windows explorer won't RETAIN the visual information that displayed it being there.... Make sense?

Why the F is this so, and how in the hell do I fix it? And, I'm guessing it won't effect my BIOS flash that I'm about to do right now? Thanks anyone/everyone for any help on this!

is the file marked as hidden?

autoexec.bat is a dos command page, it could be recognised by windows as a 'system file' and automatically hidden as per your file search options (do not show system and hidden files).

yes, windows still uses dos.

Yeah, I probably didn't need to explicitly say "DOS", cause everyone knows what I mean by CMD. Anyway, I did.

Ah, unhiding in W.E doesn't help. It's inconsequential. I can't remember what it's 'hidden' status was.

I just bricked my motherboard on flashing it though, so right now this thread is about to take a big step to the back of my priorities. Ran QFlash, passed, reset....Cycling, no BIOS. Anyway, will start a thread on it now.

Thank you for your response, however I'm unable to troubleshoot anymore as the mobo is dead. Hope you understand.

My laptop doesn't have this problem with the same USB and file. Funny thing is, they're both running identical Windows OS's. It did just update the Internet eplorer which messed with Windows as well I suspect. I suspect Bill's underhanded trickery at play - I don't usually use IE, but did for a second to test a browser issue I was having with FF. Anyway, have to use the laptop now my desktop is cactus. Figure I'd write this while I wait for help on the other thread. Why not hey...

So yeah, if I had a working Desktop I'd asnswer that question, but I don't. :D
