system specs:
GPU: rx 460 windforce oc 4gb
CPU: athlon x4 880k
motherboard: Asus A58M-E AMD A58 FCH Chipset, Crossfire Supported
RAM: 8gb DDR3/1866mhz
during my games of overwatch, i am getting above 100 fps on the lowest settings, however every known and then my fps drops below 75 (my monitor is 75hz) when in a fight. my cpu usage is above 70 but doesnt really go above 90 at all. the fps is not stable at all!
the weird thing is when playing pubg on the lowest settings the fps is pretty stable not dropping below 40fps and not really going above 60 but it stays pretty stable.
is there anything i can do?
thanks

Not really. This is a pretty classic case of the system being overwhelmed. Could be cache or fetch misses or any number of things that wouldn't cause the CPU to hit 100% but still cause a slow down.

The CPU is as good as it will get for the platform. The GPU is entry level. Start saving and consider replacing the platform with Ryzen or one of the new low-end Intel chips. GPU is going to be pretty expensive to upgrade, but you should be able to sell your old components for that.

Total CPU usage doesn't tell you anything useful. Are any individual cores hitting 100%?

If you reduce the resolution do you get the same drops in fps? If yes its your CPU.

is there no way i can stop the fps drops? i had the amd a10 7850k before but it broke, so i got the athlon x4 880k as i was told it was better. i never had fps drops on the 7850k. thats why im so confused

Firstly I don't trust random YouTube vids, there are many liars out there. However in that video his fps is mainly in the 40's so similar to yours.

I don't really know those CPU's and I didn't find a comparison but from individual reviews they seem closely matched.

One might ask then why did the previous CPU break? If there is something wrong with the board or incoming power that might explain a few things.

It is not always the computer, sometimes the software changes. Might be new anti-cheat processes that use a little more CPU, some netcode improvements, etc.

the cpu was overheating drastically, getting over 100 degrees and then crashing my computer, i tried reinstalling the thermal paste as i hadn't done that in a few years, when i did i accidentally dropped the cpu and bent the pins. i took it to the pc repair shop in my village and they rebent them but the problem still persisted. i took it back and they did different tests ana and came to the conclusion that the cpu was defiantly to blame. they recommended me get a new one to prevent further damage to my pc. hense why i got the athlon x4 880k
