Hello everyone, I was hoping this wonderful community could give me some advise. What would be the best, highest CPU upgrade for a M2N68-LA (Narra5)? (Yes, I realize this motherboard is ancient xD) I had this PC lying around for years now; a Compaq CQ5600f to be exact. It's not my main PC, but I still use it.

Currently, I have an Athlon II x3 460 installed in it and I'm having a HELL of a time finding compatible Phenom II x4 for this thing! All the ones I find on eBay just don't seem like they would work as per HP's spec page. It states that only 95w, AM2+ cpu's are compatible with this board.

So I'll either find one with a TDP of 125w, or one that is AM3/AM2+ or just AM3...what gives?!?! Why is this mobo so picky?!

I had my heart set on a Phenom II X4 B70, but I can't find one of those ANYWHERE! In fact, it seems all of these "B" cpu's are somewhat impossible to find. Out of desperation I tried a B95 version once, that was an absolute disaster. The PC wouldn't even POST. I know, I'm a moron. Sue me. >.<

So anyway...(deep sigh)...can anyone please help me? D: I'm looking for a Phenom II X4 AM2+ 95w clocked at at least 3Ghz.

Solution
your best bet is to lookup the model number and see what CPU's were offered for it originally. brand name manufacturers do not update their components to work with newer hardware like CPU's
