I built a pc about a year ago and had no problems until now. About two weeks ago I got the message “Power surges detected from power supply from previous power on”. I brushed it off thinking it was nothing but the message came up again last night... I have my pc plugged into an anti power surge power strip. Asus power surge protector is turned on. The power supply is a Corsair cx 650m bronze semi modular.
Parts
Radeon rx480 8gb vram
Intel i5-6600k
ASUS Z170-E motherboard
2 sticks of 8gb ram
1tb toshiba hard drive
2 Corsair led fans.
Any ideas? Thanks

Solution
Corsair CXm line of PSUs are mediocre quality PSUs and those are prone to such hiccups as you witnessed. There's nothing you can to do fix your PSU. Only fix is to buy a new, up to the date PSU. I suggest getting any Seasonic unit, in 500W range.
Why 500W range and not 650W? Because your GPU is 150W and if you add the rest of the system at about 200W to it, total would be 350W. 500W range PSU would be more than enough for your PC, even if you OC your CPU and/or GPU.

That being said, you can go for: S12II-520, M12II-520 EVO, G-550 or Focus+ 550,

Focus+ is the newest PSU line from Seasonic and it comes with 10 years of OEM warranty. Other listed Seasonic PSUs...

All my 3 PCs: Skylake, Haswell and AMD are also powered by Seasonic. Full specs with pics in my sig.
