So I bought an SSD, installed windows 10 on it, and then plugged in my HDD that I used before as it has 2tb and the SSD only 250gb. I want to use the SSD for Windows and a few games and apps, and then the HDD for other storage. Whenever I turn my computer on it starts up with the HDD instead of the SSD even though the SSD has priority in the bios. When I manually force the computer to boot with the SSD everything works fine but it won't do it by itself.

Solution

In any case, it's going for the Windows boot manager first.

SATA0 is definitely the SSD and SATA1 is the HDD. When I remove all drives except the SSD, it does boot up properly.

When I was installing the OS I disconnected the HDD and only had the SSD connected.

Hi, I know this thread is old, but I'm having more or less the same problem, just with two HDD. It started when I had to remove my motherboard to fix some issue with the ram. When I put it back it started trying to boot from the old HDD (the new one it's been there for a few years already) and as this doesn't have operating system it keeps telling me "ahci portX device error press f1 for defaults, and it starts normally, (The port number depends on where I have the HDD plugged, it doesn't matter if it's the 0 or the 6, the error comes up every time). It also starts normally when I have just the good drive plugged. If I enter the bios the booting is set correctly, and I can't acces UEFI, I don't think I have that as mi PC is from 2011.
So I don't know what else to try, I can use the computer normally but is annoying to have to press f1 every time I turn it on. Any ideas? Can anyone help?
Thanks so much

Please start a new thread for your particular situation.

Include the full parts list of this system. Make/model of everything.

Thanks.
