Hello, I found an old system that was used for word processing and other office programs, and I'm attempting to turn it into a budget gaming pc for a friend. It has 4gigs of ddr3, an fx 6300, and a GeForce 710 1gb edition. I was going to double the ram, leave CPU as is, and get a better graphics card. Anyone have suggestions for a budget graphics card under $80? Used is fine

I'd stick with the 4gb, at least for now, if it allows a better videocard to be bought. I'm thinking at least an RX 460 or 560 or GTX 1050. He will get more performance out of a better card than he will out of more ram. Any game that uses 8gb is going to need a decent videocard.

Of used cards, be careful since the better used cards can require more power than newer cards. Something like an HD 7870, or its derivatives, will get him in that same range of performance.

A new GT 1030 has one great aspect to it- it uses very low power. It's the most likely card to work in just about anything for that reason. It runs games surprisingly well but it does have its limitations. So make sure it can handle the games in question before you buy it.
