I currently have a PC with an i-5 2400.
I bought a GTX 1060 when my old card went out, because I knew i was going to upgrade at some point. Well, that some point is now, because the i-5 is lagging with just basic operations.
Now the issue: My work software is Chief Architect and The Adobe Suite. My requirements are more for rendering and ray trace. With some new Steam games in between. According to the software company, I really need 8 cores with multi-threading. I really do not want to invest 600 bucks+ And was looking at the following on New Egg for under 500: ( I would prefer not to spend that much) I currently have 2- 4000 MB cards. which is barely enough .

So any recommendations on something cheaper? Is this adequate, or do i need to bite the bullet and spend more?

the stock is nice but if you overclock your ryzen and need cool temps then i recommend this if you can afford this: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/93Crxr/cryorig-cpu-cooler-h7

If you want to play games and need good FPS you have to buy Intel i7-7700k which is 300-350$. But if you want to a cpu that has 8-cores and that can provide fast rendering and AMD Ryzen series is best for you. See GPU will help in rendering but not that much if you have more core CPU then it will render more detail as compare to the GPU. So if you have that much budget then the ryzen 7 is best for you.

And what would you recommend for a cooler for the Ryzen 7 1700? The stock wraith spire that it can be bundled with, or something else?
