Hi all - I have a 5.1 Onkyo amplifier which is connected to my PC via HDMI. This is all very well as it gives me full 5.1 audio ... but it also gives me an extra "monitor" which I don't want.

As I'd like ONLY the audio I bought an optical cable to plug into the output from the "MSI X99S SLI Plus" motherboard straight into the amp. It works, however it only gives me 2 channel audio, not the 5.1 I want.

Is there any way to make the optical output 5.1 instead of 2-channel please?

Solution
S/PDIF only supports 2 channels unless it has DTS (which I don't see on this board). Also, the MSI manual is very specific about which audio ports support 4.0, 5.1, and 7.1 channeling (all analog). Sorry, I think you're out of luck.
