Hi, I have ASUS K55VJ with i5 3210m and I want to upgrade to i7 3820/40qm. I asked ASUS support and they told that my laptot was tested with i7 3610qm so MB, power delivery circuit and heatsink can handle i7 with 45W TDP. Also I'm not using GT635m anymore. If I test i5 in Prime95 it reach temp between 73-75°C stable. So, in theory, i7 3820/40qm should work. If you look on:
https://ark.intel.com/products/70846/Intel-Core-i7-3840...
https://ark.intel.com/products/64899/Intel-Core-i7-3610...

As I said, it should work. But I can be wrong. Thanks in advance :)

Btw do u know if this ntb has CPU whitelist ?

Assuming the CPU is removable the only issue I can see is if the i7-3840qm is not in the BIOS CPU support list. As it came out in Q3 2012 and the i5-3210m came out in Q2 2012. ASUS could have also omitted that CPU on purpose.

The only way you will know if it works or not is to try it.

Yeah, I sent email to ASUS support yesterday about BIOS. And if BIOS has whitelist CPU is there any chance to do BIOS modification ? Like with WiFI card and mPcie slots ? They sent me this about month ago. Your notebook has been tested by the manufacturer only with processors viz. the list below and we do not guarantee right funcionality with another processor.
Intel® Core™ i7 3610QM procesor
Intel® Core™ i5 3210M procesor
Intel® Core™ i3 3110M procesor
I think if my BIOS has CPU whitelist they will sent me that it will work only with those three CPU's .... but who knows. It's only ASUS support. Maybe I should have sent email to ASUS technical support to Taiwan or so. Thx for answers
