Ryzen 1700 Literally Won't OC

When I first put the system together I put a stable OC of 3.7GHz and it ran fine for months. Then one day I noticed it was running back at the stock 3GHz. (I'm pretty sure I updated BIOS at some point). Now when I change the multiplier in BIOS to say 37 it never actually changes the frequency.

I've updated and reverted and updated back to the latest BIOS but still doesn't change from 3GHz.

Any ideas?

I guess you didn't change the vcore voltage, did you? Normally you will need to manually set up VCore voltage and speed accordingly. Check this out:

Yes and it will show 37 as multiplier but freq stays at 3.00

Are you using any OC genie in BIOS or software?

There's a switch. I forget exactly what it is, a cool'n'quiet type switch, but if it's enabled, it basically caps the processor speeds to regulate heat output in SFX/HTPC enclosures. When you flashed the bios, it went back to factory defaults, so its entirely possible that switch wasn't in the original bios. It's there now though, just wish I could remember wth it is called.

I do remember seeing a video on OC of Ryzen cpus, it was slightly more involved than just moving the multiplier and bumping voltage, there's other settings that might need adjustment too.

Try those:

My Discoveries:
Ryzen 5 1600 will happily overclock to 3800 Mhz with low Vcore and VCORE SOC voltage
Ryzen 5 1600 requires noticeably more voltage above 3800 Mhz to remain stable
Even though I dialled in 14-14-14-14-34 timings, my RAM was running at 15-15-15-15-36
Setting 1.38V on my RAM actually results in 1.40V all day long in reality
@ 3825 Mhz / 1.320V / 1.128V… Idle = 33c / 15W / 1050rpm. Load = 63c / 82W / 1500rpm

Disable core performance boost
Disable global c-state

I put in a ticket with Gigabyte to get the board RMA'd.

So weird... Gigabyte is complicated... MSI is much simpler, I only changed two setting, literally...
