My network disconnects randomly.
The outages affect the entire network.
The network is cox cable, routed through a modem, and a cisco wireless router. I connect with ethernet through the router.
I can use the internet normally with apparently full speed, and not notice the difference most of the time.
Other times The outages are much more frequent.
The outages affect all connected devices including ethernet and wifi devices. All computers use windows.
When I try to download something large, it usually fails due to a temporary outage.
The outages usually last for a few seconds to a few minutes.
I can usually fix the problem by resetting the router. Other times I have to jiggle cords and reset the modem.
sometimes I get it going and do not notice the outages. Whenever I do anything to the router the outages become much more frequent for a period of time.
Yesterday I plugged in a new ethernet cord and the outages have been occuring every 10 minutes or so.
The router is in a hole inside a desk. I have to remove the desk drawers to access it. Whenever the drawers close drawers touch the cords, but do not impinge them i believe.
I am starting to suspect that it is because of the way the cords are set up and the drawer nocks them loose.
The best luck I have is when I have the cords ducttaped to the wall and I have to jiggle them until the outages stop.
I replaced the cord leading from the modem to the router today. This did not help in any way.
Any ideas?
