External hdd enclosure power issues (raid tower)

Hello all
I really hope someone can help me. I won't bore you with all the un-important details and get straight to buisness.
I have a StarTech SAT3540U3ER raid tower, inside i have 2 x 4tb hdd.
The issue is, the enclosure keeps powering down, i have changed the power supply but still the same issue.
So what happens is, the enclosure is on, it powersup, the hdd spin, then after a period of time the enclosure powers down but the power light is still on. the length of time the enclosure stays on is different everytime i re-start it.
the hdd seem fine because when the unit is on i can access them on my laptop, no strange noises from hdd or anything.
Another issue is the enclosure is now discontinued and i really don't want to loose the data on the hdd. so transfering the data to another enclosure/hdd will be problematic, another issue for another day.
so i am hoping someone can shed some light on this,eben if it means changing parts within the enclosue.
please help

Thought i would let everyone know, and for anyone that comes across this strange problem.
So after months of not having my enclosure working, and trying EVERYTHING, even phoning the call centre and they suggested it was faulty, i got it working!
i almost bought another enclosure but thought i would give it another go.
i took out my hdd (yes i did this before) but this time i wanted to see of my laptop would recognised my hdd so i could determain where the fault was, enclosure or hdd's.
i don't think the laptop recognise the hdd as it froze, so now i thought i had botched up the raid on them, still determained to see if my hdd were faulty of not, i inserted one hdd back into my hdd enclosure to see if i could hear the hdd spin up, it...

Thanks for the reply, the hdd just push fit into the motherboard of the enclosure, no wires. the only wires are 3.0 usb, esata and power. The same issue happens regardless of esata plug in or not.

it does both strangly enough. it powers down, i leave it and it will power back up after a random period of time then power down or go into standy. and it behaves like this whren reading data and when idleing, and i'm running raid 0

OK, what you need to do is safeguard the actual data.
RAID 0 should never, ever be run without an actual backup.

You can't take those RAID 0 drives out and put them elsewhere and hope to read anything from them. Won't work.

So....
Obtain another USB connected drive, of sufficient size to hold ALL the data in the drives in that enclosure. Yes, this will cost $$$.
Folder by folder, copy it ALL off to this new drive.

i'm aware that raid 0 is advised against, i've so many questions and information that i need to find/figure out, but thats for when i sort this out. my main concern at the moment is getting the enclousre to stay on.
it dosen't add up to why this started behaving like this. has something burned out? why the inconsintant power and length of time it stays powered? why does it power back up on its own? surely if it was the motherboard / hdd or anything else it would stay broke. i'm thinking this is a power issue, maybe the actual power connection to the enclosure?

No idea why it is acting up.
A failing enclosure.
Settings in your OS.
Bad or loosely connected cable.

But...assuming the data in it is non-trivial...the more you mess with it, the more likely it is to fail completely.
Backup first, then diagnose the issues with the StarTech.

i don't think the laptop recognise the hdd as it froze, so now i thought i had botched up the raid on them, still determained to see if my hdd were faulty of not, i inserted one hdd back into my hdd enclosure to see if i could hear the hdd spin up, it did and the enclosure shut down not long after, i repeated this for hdd 2, same thing. i remember before for the raid tower to work 2 hdd need to be inserted. so i put both hdd back into the enclosure and its been working for a month now.
the only difference this time to all the previous times is i took both hdd's out like before however this time inserted 1 hdd in, took it out, inserted hdd 2, took it out, then put both in.

anyway, im over the moon and thought i would share this incase anyone else has this problem

Old thread but i thought i would update the actual solution,,
Basically the esata connection on my media player (popcorn v-ten) which connects to my hdd enclosure is dodgy and looses conenction, propting it to power down as if it were connected to a computer that has shut down,,
